[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Shinhan Card announced on the 8th that it completed a total of 80 ESG implementation tasks throughout 2020 as part of sustainable management linked to Shinhan Financial Group's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Among these, six outstanding cases were selected, and an awards ceremony was held at Shinhan Card headquarters located in Euljiro, Jung-gu. The event was attended by Moon Dong-kwon, Head of Shinhan Card's Management Planning Group, as well as department heads and staff members who carried out the outstanding tasks.

The top prize was awarded to the project that signed a business agreement for voice phishing prevention with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and AhnLab, and established an advanced management system for preventing financial fraud damage. Shinhan Card applied AhnLab's technology-based voice phishing prevention security solution to the Shinhan PayFAN application and launched an AI-based voice phishing prevention app in collaboration with the startup Infinigru, creating approximately 8 billion KRW in annual accident prevention results through diversification of the management system.

Outstanding cases included the "Mobile Content-Based Digital Screening and Issuance," which reduced paper usage by 900,000 sheets annually in the paperless era, and the "Hero (Here:路) Project," which promoted environmental improvements in the alleys of Euljiro and Daegu Seomun Market. Also recognized were the "Digital Areum-in Library" built in partnership with affiliates, the "Dedicated Program for Financially Vulnerable Groups" to protect elderly people unfamiliar with digital platforms, and the "All That Shopping Small Business Win-Win Cooperation Center," where 10 companies achieved about 10,000 sales and 500 million KRW in revenue.

A Shinhan Card official said, "In 2021, we will focus the company's capabilities on enhancing social value by engaging all departments in ESG tasks, promoting eco-friendly management, and supporting economic revitalization such as increasing sales for self-employed and startups."

Meanwhile, Shinhan Card established the first dedicated ESG organization in the card industry in 2020 and is actively promoting ESG management. In line with Shinhan Financial Group's Zero Carbon Drive strategy, it is strengthening ESG capabilities in the eco-friendly sector and is advancing beyond being number one to becoming a world-class Shinhan Card through digital and innovative finance activation.
