[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party candidate, was confirmed on the 7th as the unified candidate of the Democratic Party and Sidae Jeonhwan for the April 7 Seoul mayoral by-election.

The Democratic Party and Sidae Jeonhwan held a joint press conference at the National Assembly in the afternoon and announced that Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party candidate, was finally selected as the unified candidate for Seoul mayor.

Jo Jeong-hoon, the Sidae Jeonhwan candidate who participated in the primary, said, "I humbly accept the results of this unification primary," and added, "I will help candidate Park to change the election, which has been mired in factional logic, into a policy election," accepting the primary results.

Candidate Park responded, "I learned a lot from candidate Jo during the process of joining forces," and said, "I will strive to reflect the good remarks and policies made during the unification process in my future policies."

On the same day, the Democratic Party decided to adopt Sidae Jeonhwan's reform of the single-person household housing subscription system and the plastic recycling reward system as joint pledges.

Earlier, the two parties agreed to decide the final candidate through a 100% national public opinion survey evaluating policy preferences after holding a candidate debate.
