A total of 9 Death Reports After Vaccination... No Confirmed Link Found

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The number of reported deaths following COVID-19 vaccination in South Korea has increased by two, bringing the total number of related deaths to nine. However, a causal relationship between the vaccination and the deaths has not yet been confirmed.

According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team on the 7th, two additional death reports after vaccination were received after 2 p.m. the previous day. One case was already included in the eight cases reported in the morning statistics as of midnight that day. The other case will be officially reflected in the statistics on the 8th. This brings the total number of suspected death cases following vaccination to nine.

The two new deceased individuals are both women who were patients hospitalized in nursing hospitals. Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, was reported to have received the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine around 10 a.m. on the 2nd. She showed no significant symptoms after vaccination but was found to have died around 6 p.m. on the 6th, approximately four days after vaccination.

The other deceased, Ms. B, a woman in her 60s, received the AstraZeneca vaccine around 11 a.m. on the 26th of last month. Ms. B was also a patient hospitalized in a nursing hospital and died around 6 p.m. on the 6th, eight days after vaccination.

The ages of the nine deceased individuals identified so far are one in their 20s, one in their 40s, four in their 50s, and three in their 60s. All were reported to have underlying health conditions. Except for one resident of a severe disability facility, the remaining eight were all patients hospitalized in nursing hospitals.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether these deaths were caused by the vaccination. Authorities plan to conduct epidemiological investigations to determine the exact cause of death.
