[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) announced on the 7th that they are recruiting operators for the Digital Learning Center project until the 26th of this month. The Digital Learning Center educates residents on digital skills to prevent the digital divide caused by COVID-19 from leading to social and economic discrimination.
Seventeen cities and provinces nationwide provide living spaces such as community centers, libraries, and senior citizen centers as educational venues. There are approximately 1,000 Digital Learning Centers operating nationwide. Citizens who wish to participate can learn how to use smart devices, video conferencing solutions, e-government services, and basic coding at nearby living spaces such as community centers, libraries, and senior citizen centers.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to offer customized programs for digitally vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, farmers and fishermen, and multicultural families, accounting for at least 20% of the programs, and increase the proportion of basic and everyday digital education to around 70%.
Selected education operators will recruit digital education instructors and supporters and conduct digital competency training. Required documents for bidding and other detailed information can be found in the public bidding announcement on the Korea ON-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS) operated by the Public Procurement Service.
