Lee Jae-myung "Supporting Yang Hyang-ja's 'Recovery of Speculative Gains from LH Executives and Employees'"

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung expressed support for Yang Hyang-ja, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who stated that "if the land speculation by LH executives and employees is confirmed, a special law will be enacted to recover speculative profits into the national treasury," praising her determination and courage.

On the 6th, Governor Lee posted on Twitter, "(Yang Hyang-ja's push for the enactment of a special law) is a natural thing, but not an easy one," conveying his message.

Earlier, Supreme Council member Yang said through SNS on the same day, "I apologize to the public who are angry about this incident. As the President said, we will respond strongly without any sanctuary in investigation and punishment," and pledged, "The government and ruling party will stake the fate of the administration on resolving this incident."

She added, "If necessary, we will enact a special law to recover confirmed speculative profits into the national treasury," and "We will not avoid retroactive application, and will establish the solemnity of morality in the public service not with one punishment serving as a warning to a hundred (Ilbeolbaeggye), but with one punishment serving as a warning to a thousand (Ilbeolchun-gye) or ten thousand (Ilbeolman-gye)."

Previously, Governor Lee announced on SNS on the 3rd, "We will conduct a full-scale internal investigation into land speculation within the province targeting Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) and related departments."

Accordingly, on the 5th, the province formed a full-scale investigation team led by the auditor general. The investigation team will verify land ownership and transactions of all GH employees and their families, as well as the Urban Housing Office at the provincial headquarters.
