Australian Broadcaster "Contains Human Rights Violations"... Suspends Broadcast of Chinese State Media

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Australian public broadcaster SBS announced that it will suspend the broadcast of content from Chinese state-run broadcasters for the time being, stating that it will review human rights violation elements in their content, foreign media reported on the 5th.

Australian broadcaster SBS said it received complaints that China Central Television (CCTV) and China Global Television Network (CGTN) aired 56 confession scenes obtained through the detention and torture of prisoners from 2013 to last year, and announced that it is investigating these videos.

An SBS spokesperson said, "Considering the seriousness and complexity of this issue, we have decided to suspend the broadcast of CGTN and CCTV news bulletins during the review process."

Last month, the UK's broadcasting and telecommunications regulator Ofcom also banned CGTN's broadcast, citing violations of UK law due to being "under the control of the Chinese Communist Party."
