20 Billion Won Invested in Modernizing Crosswalks, Bus Stops, and More
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Kim Hoe-jae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Yeosu-eul, Jeonnam), announced the day before yesterday, “As a result of efforts made together with Yeosu City, Yeosu City was the only city in Jeonnam to be selected for this year’s ‘Smart City Solution Expansion Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, overcoming a competition rate of 4 to 1.”
The Smart City Solution Expansion Project is a nationwide initiative to spread excellent solutions that have been proven effective on-site through smart city projects such as national pilot cities and challenges, so that the public can experience their benefits.
When the government presents a list of expansion solutions in areas such as transportation and safety, each local government selects and supports two solutions within a budget of about 2 billion KRW according to their conditions.
Through this, Yeosu City plans to build a safe smart transportation city by installing smart crosswalks (12 locations, 1.3 billion KRW) and smart bus stops (4 locations, 700 million KRW) in child protection zones, pedestrian accident hotspots, and areas with many pedestrians.
Representative Kim Hoe-jae said, “Yeosu City’s traffic safety was relatively weak, with a traffic safety index grade of D and pedestrian safety index ranking 42nd, but I expect it to improve dramatically through this public contest project,” adding, “I will continue to cooperate with Yeosu City to ensure citizens’ safety and do my best to facilitate the smooth promotion of local pending projects.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected 23 cities including Yeosu in Jeonnam as target sites for the ‘Smart Challenge Solution Expansion Project’ to spread and distribute excellent smart city solutions nationwide.
As a result of the public contest for this Smart City Solution Expansion Project, 90 cities nationwide applied, recording a high competition rate of 4 to 1.
