"Reduce 'Greenhouse Gas' Emissions and Receive Up to 100,000 Won... Recruiting Participants for Busan Automobile Carbon Point Program"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Reduce your driving distance and receive up to 100,000 KRW.” Busan City (Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin) is recruiting 305 participants on a first-come, first-served basis for the ‘Automobile Carbon Point System’ until March 31.

The Automobile Carbon Point System is a program that provides incentives based on performance to drivers of passenger and van vehicles who reduce their driving distance or practice eco-friendly driving to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The driving distance incentive is applied based on the more favorable result between the reduction rate (%) and the reduction amount (km), with payments ranging from 20,000 KRW up to a maximum of 100,000 KRW.

Eligible participants are non-commercial passenger and van vehicles with 12 seats or fewer. Eco-friendly vehicles such as electric, hybrid, and hydrogen cars, as well as vehicles registered in Seoul, are excluded.

Applications can be submitted on the Automobile Carbon Point System website until the 31st. Registration must be under the vehicle owner’s name, and only one vehicle per household based on the address can participate.

At registration, applicants must prepare ▲front and side photos showing the vehicle’s license plate ▲photo of the odometer ▲photo of the vehicle registration certificate confirming that the actual driver and owner are the same person.

Incentives are paid only when the average daily driving distance during the participation period is reduced compared to the cumulative average daily driving distance. The city plans to distribute incentives based on driving distance in December.

Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin of Busan said, “Thanks to active citizen participation and efforts last year, the Automobile Carbon Point System achieved a reduction of 120 tons of greenhouse gases,” adding, “We will carry out greenhouse gas reduction projects to realize a ‘carbon-neutral city’ by 2050.”
