Dongjak-gu Warm Winter Fundraising Totaling 1.237 Billion Won Raised... 1,491 Participations, a 78% Increase from Last Year, Driven by Donation QR Codes and Online Promotion
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) raised a total of 1.237 billion KRW over three months from November 16 last year to the 15th of last month through the ‘2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign’.
This project was carried out in collaboration with the Dongjak Welfare Foundation and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest to practice warm love for low-income residents and marginalized neighbors facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
In particular, despite the special and difficult situation of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the district conducted non-face-to-face fundraising by utilizing online channels such as SNS, YouTube, and the homepage, as well as donation QR codes inserted in sharing photo zones and donation boxes installed at community service centers, enabling any resident to easily participate, which led to a 78% increase compared to the previous year with 1,491 donation participations.
Among the donations, small donations (under 100,000 KRW) accounted for 580 cases, a 218% increase from the previous year, and precious item sharing also increased by 12%, showing warm hands willingly participating in fundraising for neighbors in need despite the COVID-19 situation.
This fundraising received warm-hearted support from various sectors including local private companies, neighborhood leaders, and individual sponsors through diverse methods.
The Small and Medium Business Research Institute returned the salary of its head and collected 10 million KRW, the Korea Specialty Construction Association donated 15 million KRW again this year following last year, Nongshim donated ramen worth 36 million KRW annually for meals for the underprivileged, and KG Eduwill contributed rice worth 3.9 million KRW, donating funds and goods for the local marginalized groups.
Along with this, Cheongjeong donated 100 million KRW, Plan Zero 50 million KRW, and Dream Medical donated masks worth 33 million KRW for low-income health-vulnerable groups.
Especially, Mrs. Yoo * Soon (80, female), a resident of Sangdo 3-dong, touched hearts with her story of helping neighbors every winter with money earned from selling scrap paper. Although she lives by selling scrap paper, every December she donates 300,000 KRW, and this time she donated 500,000 KRW.
She said, “This year, I came a little late due to COVID-19. Everyone is struggling because of COVID-19, but I hope support can be given to neighbors who are even more in need than me.”
The district uses the raised funds and goods through the Dongjak Welfare Foundation to support basic livelihood security recipients, low-income single-parent families, and elderly living alone in the area.
Additionally, appreciation certificates will be presented next month to individuals and organizations who practiced neighborly love through regular donations of funds and goods.
Park Mi-young, Director of Welfare Policy Division, said, “Despite the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic causing difficulties for everyone, we thank residents, organizations, and companies who united in heart to participate in this project for neighbors. We will ensure that the precious funds raised through much interest and participation are used where they are most needed to deliver hope to neighbors in need.”
