[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it is moving swiftly to attract related industries to the Hwawon Shipbuilding Industrial Complex and utilize it as a hinterland complex in line with the construction of the Shinan Offshore Wind Power Complex, which is being promoted as part of the Korean New Deal policy.
On the 3rd, County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan visited Daehan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. to inspect the status of the Hwawon Industrial Complex construction and discussed plans to attract investment-intent companies for key offshore wind power equipment such as blades and substructures.
Governor Myeong held a meeting with Daehan Shipbuilding President Jeong Dae-seong, reviewing the possibility of attracting related companies by utilizing the shipyard’s infrastructure and undeveloped land as offshore wind power structure manufacturing facilities, and agreed to closely cooperate on revitalizing the Hwawon Industrial Complex.
Daehan Shipbuilding plans to relocate its Naeop factory in the Daebul Industrial Complex to the Hwawon Shipbuilding Industrial Complex, expecting an influx of about 1,500 employees and economic effects through the revitalization of the industrial complex.
In particular, Governor Myeong expressed his commitment, stating, “We will spare no support for the activation of the industrial complex, including the construction of a 2.9 km access road between Gu-rim-ri and Maechon-ri in Hwawon.”
Additionally, together with Daehan Shipbuilding officials, an on-site inspection of the Hwawon Industrial Complex was conducted, and it was agreed that the public and private sectors will cooperate jointly to attract related companies.
The Hwawon Shipbuilding Industrial Complex covers a total area of 2,055,622㎡, with a saleable area of 1,983,470㎡. It is scheduled for completion in 2024, and the industrial complex has expanded its business scope beyond shipbuilding to include metal processing manufacturing, creating conditions for the production of offshore wind power equipment.
Haenam-gun plans to establish a logistics base and production infrastructure in the Hwawon Industrial Complex in response to the construction of the offshore wind power complex, while building an eco-friendly energy cluster aligned with the government’s Green New Deal policy and Jeollanam-do’s Blue Economy vision.
The Shinan Offshore Wind Power Complex is a leading model of the Korean New Deal’s “private-led, government-supported” approach, with an investment of 48 trillion won to build an 8.2GW scale complex. Based on this, it is expected to nurture 450 local companies and create 120,000 jobs.
Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “The Hwawon Shipbuilding Industrial Complex is the optimal location for offshore wind power logistics in Jeollanam-do. We will actively attract offshore wind power manufacturers in cooperation with Jeollanam-do to make it a hinterland complex for the Shinan Offshore Wind Power Complex.”
