[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 4th that the Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Center, a lifelong learning hub facility that will serve as a new learning space for residents, will open on the 11th.
The Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Center, newly constructed behind the Seonam-dong Administrative Welfare Center in Dong-gu with a project cost of 3.1 billion KRW, has a total floor area of 919.17㎡ and consists of four above-ground floors, featuring a job counseling room, seminar room, community room, cooking education room, group home, music education room, and physical education room.
Previously, Dong-gu was designated as a lifelong learning city in 2006 and has been promoting various projects to revitalize lifelong education. Last year, it was re-designated through an evaluation of the various lifelong learning projects it had been implementing.
The construction of this learning center is expected to be a meaningful opportunity to open a new chapter in lifelong learning in Dong-gu.
Going forward, the ‘Dong-gu Lifelong Learning Center’ plans to carry out various lifelong education projects including ▲operating specialized programs by generation and career through selection and concentration ▲developing and strengthening non-face-to-face programs in response to the COVID-19 situation ▲providing job and startup opportunities for residents through lifelong learning and self-development linked with new industries such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and AI ▲forming participant-centered clubs through lifelong learning ▲promoting local community awareness and expanding opportunities for social participation.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “With the opening of this lifelong learning center, we will prepare demand-oriented programs tailored to residents’ needs and discover collaborations with lifelong education institutions,” adding, “We will spare no effort in active support and cooperation to establish it as a regional lifelong education hub facility.”
