The county announced on the 4th that it will promote youth employment support projects by prioritizing the hiring of young people in public job projects this year.
In jobs for middle-aged and older adults, the county plans to focus on job creation reflecting Sancheong-gun’s core policies, such as the operation of Donguibogam Village combined with anti-aging tourism.
Specifically, it will provide jobs for about 50 people in social enterprises, about 40 people in the local youth-led job project, and about 300 people through public job projects, offering more than 2,000 direct jobs in the public sector.
Along with this, job creation in the private and industrial sectors is expected to gain momentum with the attraction of companies to the Korean Medicine Industrial Complex, construction of factories in Hwacheong Industrial Complex, and apartment construction in the Oksan district of Sancheong-eup.
The county was found to have the highest employment rate in Gyeongnam Province according to the ‘2020 Second Half Major Employment Indicators by City and County’ recently announced by Statistics Korea.
According to the data, the county’s employment rate in the second half of last year was 72.6%, an increase of 1.5% compared to 2019.
The economic activity participation rate, which indicates the soundness of the labor market, was also the highest in the province at 73.6%, steadily rising from 70.5% in 2017 and 71.7% in 2018.
Lee Jae-geun, mayor of Sancheong-gun, said, “We believe that the steady implementation of job policies tailored to our region’s characteristics has resulted in an increase in the employment rate despite the impact of COVID-19,” adding, “We will continue to strive to discover and improve quality jobs.”
Meanwhile, the county has laid the foundation for jobs by promoting Donguibogam Village tourism resource development and strategic medicinal herb intensive cultivation projects to smoothly advance the Korean Medicine anti-aging business, a future key industry of the province.
