Ministry of Industry and UAE Sign MOU for Hydrogen Economy Cooperation

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have joined hands to accelerate the era of carbon neutrality.

On the 4th, the two organizations held the 'Korea-UAE Industry and Energy Cooperation Forum' via video conference and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the fields of hydrogen economy and industrial technology.

The two countries agreed to share government policies, laws, and regulations to support hydrogen trade, establish cooperation channels among hydrogen alliances, and seek investment opportunities in hydrogen and carbon recycling and emission reduction technologies.

Minister Sung Yun-mo of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Minister Al Jaber of the UAE held a meeting that day and discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Sung introduced Korea's hydrogen roadmap and the world's first hydrogen law enactment, part of the Korean-style Green New Deal policy, and called for further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the new energy sector. He also proposed cooperation in digital economy fields such as digital health, bioindustry, smart manufacturing, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, e-learning, as well as fostering creative SMEs including startups.

Following the ministerial meeting, a CEO roundtable was held, attended by CEOs of nine companies including GS Energy and Korea National Oil Corporation, to discuss corporate strategies for carbon neutrality and the transition to a hydrogen economy.
