Goheung Yuja and Pomegranate Win Top Brand Award for 3 Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung County (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 4th that its representative specialty products, Goheung Yuja and Goheung Pomegranate, have won the 'Consumer-Selected Best Brand Award' in the 'Local Specialty Products' category for three consecutive years this year.

Now in its 10th year, the 'Consumer-Selected Best Brand Award' is hosted by JoongAng Ilbo Forbes and supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The award is given by selecting the best brands in 74 categories through direct research participation by experts in each field and general consumers.

Goheung Yuja accounts for about 60% of the national production volume. It is renowned for its excellent taste and aroma due to the soft sea breeze, mild climate, and abundant sunlight. Compared to products from other regions, its fruits are larger and juicier, making it a high-quality yuja with a strong reputation.

Additionally, in the COVID-19 era, yuja, which greatly helps immunity, has been reappraised, and demand is increasing in Europe and Southeast Asia, expanding into new markets.

Goheung Pomegranate holds a dominant market share, accounting for 80% of domestic production. Compared to cheap imported or other regional pomegranates, it contains higher amounts of antioxidants such as estrogen, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, organic acids, and calcium, making it a premium health food acclaimed for various benefits including skin beauty and anti-aging.

Governor Song Gwi-geun said, “Everyone knows Goheung Yuja and Goheung Pomegranate, but not many know how beneficial they are to health. We will focus on promoting the excellence of Goheung Yuja and Goheung Pomegranate to live up to the honor of winning the award for three consecutive years and strive to increase farmers' income.”
