Gangbuk-gu Launches Free Computer Distribution Program

Free PC Maintenance Services for Information-Disadvantaged Groups...First-Come, First-Served Registration from 9 AM on April 1 via District Office Website

Gangbuk-gu Launches Free Computer Distribution Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) is launching the 'Gangbuk IT Hope Sharing Project,' which provides computers free of charge to the information-disadvantaged groups.

The 'Hope Sharing Project' is a system that upgrades the specifications of computers previously used for administrative tasks by one level and distributes them free of charge to socially vulnerable groups who have difficulty using information devices.

The eligible recipients are basic livelihood security recipients, persons with disabilities, single-parent and multicultural families, national veterans, and social welfare facilities within the district. However, those who have received a PC from Gangbuk-gu or Seoul City within the past two years are excluded from the distribution.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting from 9 a.m. on April 1.

Final support decisions will be made after verifying the eligibility of applicants. The application methods differ for individual residents and social welfare facilities. Residents can apply through the district office website (Citizen Participation → IT Hope Sharing → Apply for Computer) or visit their local community service center in person. Social welfare facilities should contact the department in charge of welfare services for persons with disabilities and others.

This year, a total of 100 units will be distributed, with 60 units allocated to individuals and 40 units to social welfare facilities. The package includes the computer main unit, keyboard, and mouse.

The computers have specifications of CPU Intel-Core i3 (3.1GHz), 4GB memory, and HDD 500GB or higher. After distribution, the district office maintenance team plans to provide free on-site repairs for one year. Basic livelihood security recipients can receive free PC inspection and maintenance without any time limit.

Mayor Park Gyeom-su of Gangbuk-gu said, “When administrative information devices are reborn as resident-use computers, it is expected to have a dual effect of resource recycling and sharing,” adding, “We will expand the ‘IT Hope Sharing’ project to bridge the digital divide for residents who have difficulty accessing and using information and communication services due to economic or physical reasons.”
