Two People in Their 50s Die After Receiving AstraZeneca Vaccine in Jeonbuk

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Tae-in] Two people in their 50s who received the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine in the Jeonbuk region have died.

However, the connection between the vaccine and the deaths has not yet been confirmed.

According to Jeonbuk Province on the 4th, A (52), a patient at a nursing hospital in Jeonju, was vaccinated at 9:10 a.m. on the 2nd, and B (58), a patient at a nursing hospital in Buan-gun, was vaccinated at 11 a.m. on the 3rd.

However, A died at 1:40 a.m. on the 4th, and B died at around 2:15 a.m. on the 4th.

A had cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and was known to have suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in June of last year.

B was reported to have had conditions such as myocardial infarction and diabetes.

A health official said, "Neither of the deceased showed any adverse reactions after vaccination, and the connection with the vaccine has not been identified at this time," adding, "The relationship with the vaccine will be discussed in an expert meeting, but it is still at the presumption stage, and the possibility of a direct link to the vaccination appears low."

Meanwhile, the provincial health authorities plan to hold a meeting with four infectious disease experts this afternoon to determine any connection with the vaccine.
