[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Park Hyung-jun, a professor at Dong-A University who was selected as the final candidate for the Busan mayor from the People Power Party, stated on the 7th of next month that the by-election should be "an election to put a brake on the reckless actions of the Moon Jae-in administration."
Park made this remark during his acceptance speech at the "By-election Seoul and Busan Mayor Candidate Primary Result Announcement" held at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul on the 4th.
He said, "If we do not judge this administration that spends the taxes painstakingly saved by the people as if they were political funds for the regime, then who will we judge?" and added, "Through this election, the People Power Party will show that it is not just a party that criticizes but a party with alternatives and a party that can present a true vision."
Park emphasized that the nature of this Seoul and Busan mayoral by-election must not be forgotten. He explained, "This election is being held as one of the most shameful events in the history of Korean politics," and "The people must show their choice regarding this election caused by the wrongful tyranny of the former mayor." The April 7 Seoul and Busan mayoral by-elections were triggered by sexual misconduct scandals involving ruling party metropolitan government heads.
Park also said, "From now on, I will devote myself solely to Busan," and "Based on this momentum, I will dedicate my strength so that new leadership for Korea can be demonstrated."
