[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Oh Se-hoon, the former mayor of Seoul and the final candidate of the People Power Party for the Seoul mayoral by-election, expressed a strong determination for opposition unity. Along with this, he also conveyed an apology for the past 10 years.
On the morning of the 4th, at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, during the 'By-election Seoul·Busan Mayor Candidate Primary Results Announcement,' he stated in his acceptance speech, "I will definitely achieve unity."
Candidate Oh emphasized, "An election on April 7th in a divided state is a path to self-defeat," adding, "The somewhat awkward nature of my candidacy announcement was also a form of my clear intention to emphasize that point and to express my firm resolve in another way."
He continued, "I will carry that passion unwaveringly until the moment of unity," and added, "With the power of unity and the strength of the people, I firmly declare once again my determination to create a foothold to decisively judge this administration."
Candidate Oh also revealed his feelings of apology for the past 10 years. He said, "As a mayor who could not complete his term, I have carried the guilt and self-reproach deeply in my heart over the past 10 years, preparing in my own way for the day I could receive your forgiveness," and added, "I take seriously the encouragement and the disciplinary whip given to me to repay the debts I owe to the citizens of Seoul by working hard once again."
Candidate Oh further stated, "Before the afterglow of the candlelight vigils at Gwanghwamun Square had even faded, this government has carried out politics of betrayal, deception, division, retaliation, and disregard for the people," and said, "I firmly believe that April 7th must be an election where the stern judgment of the people resonates deeply in their hearts as a warning message that pierces President Moon Jae-in’s chest."
