[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwanju] On the afternoon of the 4th, Choi Young-ae, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, visited a supported housing facility for persons with disabilities located in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, and held a meeting with persons with disabilities who have started independent living in the community after deinstitutionalization and officials of the supported housing facility.
Chairperson Choi plans to listen to the voices regarding the living environment, welfare services, community, life satisfaction of the persons concerned after deinstitutionalization, as well as the difficulties and challenges following deinstitutionalization.
Supported housing for persons with disabilities is a type of housing welfare service that combines housing and welfare. As of 2019, there are 1,557 residential facilities for persons with disabilities nationwide, and approximately 29,700 persons with disabilities use these facilities.
