SK Telecom Launches 'Nugu Opal Ansim' for 24-Hour Parental Care

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] SK Telecom announced on the 4th that it has launched a specialized service called ‘Nugu Opal Safety’ in collaboration with ADT Caps, which responds 24/7 to emergency requests from senior customers.

This service adds ‘ADT 24-hour Care,’ which monitors emergency situations around the clock, to SK Telecom’s senior-focused artificial intelligence (AI) service ‘Nugu Opal.’ It can be accessed through Nugu devices such as Nugu, Nugu Candle, Nugu Mini, and Btv AI set-top boxes.

Users of Nugu Opal Safety can call an emergency SOS by voice commands like “Save me,” “Help me,” or “Rescue me” in urgent situations. When an emergency SOS is triggered, the ADT Caps control center receives the report 24/7 and attempts to contact the reporting customer by phone. They then proceed to request rescue from institutions such as the 119 Safety Reporting Center or the police station. If the customer does not answer ADT Caps’ calls three or more times, a dispatch request is automatically made to the 119 Safety Reporting Center.

The existing Nugu service provides an emergency SOS service that sends text messages (MMS) to five pre-registered contacts, and in addition, the ‘ADT 24-hour Care’ of ‘Nugu Opal Safety’ actively responds to users’ emergencies through the ADT Caps control center and 119·112 reporting.

Customers subscribed to the Nugu Opal Safety service can also utilize various senior-focused features provided by the existing Nugu Opal, such as ▲Medication reminders ▲Daily life alerts ▲Brain gymnastics ▲Healing exercises. Nugu Opal applies a senior-specialized voice recognition and voice synthesis model that is automatically activated when senior customers use Nugu Opal. It is tailored to the language use of senior customers, including vocabulary and speech speed.

Customers who wish to use Nugu Opal Safety can purchase a subscription through the Nugu app regardless of their mobile carrier starting from 3 PM on the same day. SK Telecom customers can also subscribe as an additional service through T World offline stores or the T World website and app. Nugu Opal Safety is offered at 4,500 KRW per month (including VAT), with the first three months free after subscription.

Hyun-A Lee, Head of SKT AI&CO (Company Head), said, “We hope the Nugu Opal Safety service will help senior customers live safely and enjoyably,” and added, “We will continue to discover services that can improve users’ quality of life through SK Telecom’s AI technology.”
