[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Police Agency announced on the 3rd that starting from the new semester, it will utilize the 'Geographical Profiling System' to conduct sexual crime prevention activities around elementary schools to enhance the safety of elementary students who are vulnerable to various crimes such as sexual offenses.
The Geographical Profiling System is a program that maximizes work efficiency and usability by combining crime data with maps to visualize areas with frequent crimes and other related information.
Jeju Police input risk factors such as vacant houses and public restrooms, which may expose elementary school surroundings to crime, into the system and created patrol route maps reflecting these factors. These maps were distributed to 1,564 external patrol personnel including child safety guardians, learning guardians, and senior clubs to conduct efficient patrol activities focused on school commuting hours and weekends/holidays.
In addition, through cooperation with highly mobile organizations such as Jeju Regional Post Office and Taxi Mutual Aid Association, text messages urging reporting to 112 upon witnessing suspicious individuals around elementary schools will be sent regularly.
A Jeju Police Agency official stated, “We will continuously strive to expand patrol hours and community policing personnel during holidays and other times, and will also carry out education and inspections concurrently.”
