The W·E Duty Free Certification stands for Win-win Excellent Duty Free, a newly introduced certification system designed to enable the duty-free industry and SMEs and mid-sized companies to voluntarily cooperate for mutual growth, thereby achieving export growth for SMEs and mid-sized companies through the duty-free industry. The first duty-free stores to receive this certification were Shinsegae Duty Free Main Store and two Lotte Duty Free Sogong stores.
Shinsegae Duty Free operates the large and small business win-win cooperation fund exemplary to support the growth of SMEs within the duty-free stores, and it is running a win-win cooperation program worth 6.2 billion KRW by signing an agreement with the Fair Trade Commission for resolving wage gaps through innovation-led growth, the first of its kind in the duty-free industry.
Additionally, it helps SMEs and mid-sized companies grow together through incubating projects aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of small suppliers. In recognition of these efforts, it received a commendation from the Minister of SMEs and Startups for win-win cooperation in November 2020. Furthermore, it has been working to secure overseas sales channels by discovering excellent domestic SME and mid-sized brands and holding special exhibitions on its own online duty-free platform, C Mall (China Mall).
A Shinsegae Duty Free official said, “The past year was a period of both crisis and change in the duty-free industry, and it was also a challenging time for SMEs and mid-sized companies. Through obtaining the W·E Duty Free Certification, we will continue to strive for mutual cooperation and growth between the duty-free industry and SMEs and mid-sized companies.”
