[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) is recruiting students for the 2021 Native Speaker Foreign Language Classes.
The education period for student classes (elementary school grades 3-6 and middle school students) is 39 weeks from April 2021 to January 2022. The first adult class runs for 13 weeks from April 12 to July 14. The second and third adult classes will be held in the second half of this year.
The courses offered for students include 7 English classes, 3 Chinese classes, 2 Spanish classes, and 1 Arabic class. Adult classes are divided into general courses (6 English classes, 4 Chinese classes, 3 Japanese classes, 2 Spanish classes) and evening courses (2 English classes, 1 Chinese class, 1 Vietnamese class).
There are a total of 32 classes in 6 foreign languages. If fewer than 5 students register for a second foreign language, the class may be canceled.
The class size is about 12 students per class, focusing on practical conversation. The classes are held at Yongsan Dream Tree Complex Town (329 Baekbeom-ro), 1st floor native speaker foreign language classroom, with both online and offline classes depending on the COVID-19 situation.
The tuition fee per term is 60,000 KRW for 3 hours of classes per week and 40,000 KRW for 2 hours per week. Textbook fees are separate. Tuition is waived for low-income groups (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, low-income single-parent families).
Residents who wish to enroll can apply through the district education portal from 9:30 AM on March 4 to 6 PM on March 15. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, a computerized lottery will be held, and the results will be announced on the district education portal at 2 PM on March 18.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “The Dream Tree Complex Town foreign language classroom has received positive responses due to its diverse and high-quality courses. The district will spare no effort to support local residents and students in developing their foreign language skills.”
