[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is distributing sex education video materials for parents to help them understand digital sex crimes and sexual violence.
The developed materials consist of 10 videos, each about 5 minutes long, designed to help parents understand digital sexual violence such as the 'n번방' (Nth Room) case and online grooming, and to assist in child-rearing.
The video topics include ▲ Telegram 'n번방' (Nth Room) and sex education ▲ Why was "telling parents" considered a threat? ▲ Characteristics of digital sexual violence and socio-cultural structures ▲ Cases and interventions ▲ Conversations to enhance gender sensitivity. The materials are available on the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's YouTube channel and are accessible to anyone.
In the episode "Why was 'telling parents' considered a threat?", it is explained that the perpetrator's belief that the victim would not report the crime and the fear that parents would be disappointed work together, and it emphasizes instilling trust in children that they will not be blamed for such incidents and the necessity of sexual conversations with children.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "The best thing parents can do to prevent digital sexual violence is to be the most trustworthy adults in their children's lives and share everyday moments with them." He added, "We support parents who strive to create a more equal and safer world, and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will be a strong shield for parents and students."
