Wine Sales Triple Annually Since 2018, Up 3.1 Times in Jan-Feb This Year
Industry's First Wine Curation Marketing 'Wine of the Month', Effect of Liquor Specialty Stores
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Convenience stores are rapidly emerging as the representative purchasing channels for wine.
Emart24 announced on the 3rd, "Since being the first in the industry to target the wine market, wine sales have tripled every year." Emart24's wine sales have increased threefold annually since 2018. From January to February this year, sales also rose by 209% (3 times) compared to the same period last year.
Emart24 attributed this sales growth to increased wine accessibility through the expansion of liquor-specialized stores and the strong customer response to the industry's first wine curation marketing campaign, "Wine of the Month."
Last month’s "Wine of the Month," 'Pounamu Sauvignon Blanc,' gained word-of-mouth popularity as voluntary purchase certifications and product reviews were shared within wine communities. As a result, Pounamu Sauvignon Blanc ranked first in wine category sales last month.
In March, Emart24 will introduce four selections for "Wine of the Month." For value-for-money options, two types of 'Roche Mazet' (Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay) will be offered. Roche Mazet is a wine boasting the number one sales in France and exports over 50 million bottles annually. Throughout March, both types of Roche Mazet can be purchased for 9,900 KRW each (originally 20,000 KRW).
Emart24 will exclusively offer 'Antiguas Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon.' It is the flagship red wine from 'Cousino Macul,' the oldest winery in Chile. To commemorate this exclusive launch, a limited edition set including a luxury wine glass will be sold with only 10,000 units available. The set includes the wine and a wine glass from the glass brand 'Riedel,' valued at around 20,000 KRW. It will be sold until the end of March for 25,000 KRW (originally 29,000 KRW).
As a premium line, 'Lapostolle Apalta Cabernet Sauvignon' has been selected. It is the third wine of 'Clos Apalta,' a super-premium wine representing Chile, and will be introduced to Korea for the first time through Emart24. The price is 32,000 KRW (originally 60,000 KRW).
Kim Ji-woong, head of Emart24’s general food team, said, "Through 'Wine of the Month,' customers can purchase good wines cheaply even at convenience stores, and we plan to continuously work to establish the perception that wines recommended by Emart24 are trustworthy purchases." He added, "With White Day in March, we expect another wine to become a hot topic in online communities."
