Man Arrested for Stealing Safe Containing 100 Million Won from Gangnam Gym

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man who stole a safe containing about 100 million won from a gym in Gangnam, Seoul, has been arrested.

Seo Bo-min, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) on the 2nd for Park, who is accused of special theft and other charges, and issued an arrest warrant, stating that "the reasons and necessity for detention have been demonstrated."

Park is suspected of stealing a safe containing about 100 million won in cash and checks from a gym in Gangnam-gu on the 25th of last month. After the crime, he fled to Busan and even posted on his social networking service (SNS) using the money for entertainment expenses.

On the 28th of last month, Park was caught red-handed by police who responded to a report of reckless driving while drunk driving in Jwadong, Haeundae-gu, Busan. At the time, his blood alcohol concentration was found to be at the level warranting license cancellation. The Busan Haeundae Police Station confirmed that Park was a suspect in the safe theft case and transferred him to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, which was investigating the case.

The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the case with Park.
