Seodaemun-gu Sinchon Munhwa Baljeonso Offers Unique Art Experience with VR Content

2021 XR Project - Gasang Isang (Beyond Imagination) Held... 5 Award-Winning Outstanding Virtual Reality (VR) Works from Overseas Film Festivals Gathered in One Place

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) will hold the ‘2021 XR Project - Gasang Isang (假想以上)’ at the Sinchon Culture Development Center Performance Hall every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1 PM to 8 PM, from the 4th to the 20th.

XR (eXtended Reality) refers to ultra-realistic technologies encompassing Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR).

The district will screen five outstanding VR works, including ‘Spheres,’ directed by Darren Aronofsky, which recreates the wondrous universe; ‘Gloomy Eyes’ (narrated by Colin Farrell) and ‘Battlescar’ (narrated by Rosario Dawson), featuring narration by famous Hollywood actors; and interactive virtual world contents such as ‘Wolf Inside the Wall’ and ‘Line.’

The selected contents have been recognized for their artistic value in the VR sections of international film festivals such as the Venice International Film Festival and Sundance International Film Festival. Before and after viewing, professional XR curators will provide explanations and audience reviews to help deepen understanding of virtual reality content.

Viewers can enjoy the screenings using the latest portable VR device ‘Oculus Quest 2,’ which enhances immersion with improved performance.

The district prepared the ‘XR Project - Gasang Isang (假想以上)’ to offer citizens new cultural and artistic experiences amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

This program is expected to be a great opportunity to experience excellent VR works without having to visit domestic or international film festivals.

When experiencing VR films, viewers use an HMD (head-mounted display device that allows enjoyment of large-scale video) and controllers, maximizing immersion into the virtual world, so it is suitable for elementary school students and older.

The admission fee is 3,000 KRW and tickets can be reserved through Interpark Ticket. Detailed information is available on the Sinchon Culture Development Center website.

Operations will comply with social distancing and quarantine guidelines, including temperature checks, entry log registration, limiting the number of viewers to five or fewer per screening session, and thorough equipment disinfection.
