[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 2nd that it sold a total of 300,248 vehicles worldwide last month. This figure represents a 6.7% increase compared to February of last year.
Hyundai explained that the main reason for the increase in sales volume was the base effect and impact caused by factory production disruptions and poor sales performance due to COVID-19 in February of last year.
In the domestic market, 52,102 units were sold last month, a 32.6% increase compared to the same month last year.
Specifically, sedans were led by the Grandeur with 8,563 units sold domestically, followed by the Avante with 5,124 units, and the Sonata with 4,186 units, totaling 17,915 units sold. Recreational Vehicles (RVs) sold a total of 15,628 units, including 5,869 Tucson, 4,045 Palisade, and 2,781 Santa Fe units.
Commercial vehicles recorded sales of 8,994 units for small commercial vehicles, combining Grand Starex and Porter, while large commercial vehicles, including medium and large buses and trucks, sold 2,244 units.
The premium brand Genesis sold a total of 7,321 units, including 2,714 G80, 2,686 GV70, and 1,190 GV80 units.
In overseas markets, 248,146 units were sold, a 2.5% increase compared to the same period.
A Hyundai Motor Company official stated, "To overcome the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue proactive risk management efforts by preparing countermeasures for each region," adding, "We will do our best to successfully penetrate the global market with the Ioniq 5 and the Genesis brand."
