Gyeongnam Province, Fully Committed to 'Maintaining Employment and Securing Competitiveness in the Aviation Industry'

Actively Supporting Strengthening Competitiveness of the Aviation Industry in Preparation for Volume Recovery After COVID-19

Gyeongnam Province, Fully Committed to 'Maintaining Employment and Securing Competitiveness in the Aviation Industry'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 2nd that it has reapplied for the designation of "Special Employment Support Industry" to maintain employment in the aircraft manufacturing industry and will also expand support to secure competitiveness in the aviation industry.

This is to maintain employment in the aircraft manufacturing industry, which is struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Gyeongnam Province reapplied to the Ministry of Employment and Labor on February 26 to designate the aircraft manufacturing industry as a Special Employment Support Industry.

The application reflected employment indicators from January of this year and proposed measures such as utilizing leading indicators (qualitative indicators) rather than lagging indicators (quantitative indicators), considering the characteristics of the aircraft manufacturing industry where maintaining skilled personnel is directly linked to competitiveness, and prioritizing the designation of "Special Employment Support Industry" for small and medium-sized partner companies in severe management situations.

On the 2nd, Lee Mi-hwa, Director of the Manufacturing Industry Division of Gyeongnam Province, visited the Ministry of Employment and Labor to explain the necessity and justification for designating the aircraft manufacturing industry as a Special Employment Support Industry.

Along with this, she emphasized the urgent need for government support to overcome the regional economic crisis in Gyeongnam, the largest aviation industry hub in the country, maintain employment, and create jobs, and requested the prompt designation of the Special Employment Support Industry.

If the aircraft manufacturing industry is designated as a Special Employment Support Industry, additional support such as employment maintenance subsidies, vocational competency development training, and increased living expense loan limits will be provided.

Benefits such as extension of payment deadlines for employment and industrial accident insurance premiums and health insurance premiums, as well as deferral of delinquency penalties, will also be granted.

Starting this year, to strategically market aviation companies, professional consulting firms will be connected on a one-to-one basis to secure the export capabilities of aviation companies in the province.

In preparation for a dramatic increase in composite material parts, the "Aircraft Composite Parts Testing, Evaluation, and Analysis System" will be established by the end of this year (Center 2,675㎡, 31 types of equipment).

Through system advancement such as support projects for improving aviation parts facilities and processes, the order-receiving capabilities of aviation parts companies will be strengthened.

In particular, the Yongdang (Aviation MRO) Industrial Complex, being developed to convert domestic demand for aircraft maintenance and foster the aircraft maintenance industry, is accelerating construction with the goal of early completion.

Additionally, a new project to support field-customized aircraft maintenance workforce training will be launched to develop Gyeongnam into a center of the aircraft maintenance industry.
