Rep. So vows to "strive for a clean and pleasant learning environment" for Suncheon youth
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker So Byeong-cheol (Suncheon·Gwangyang·Gokseong·Gurye (Gap), Judiciary Committee) announced on the 2nd that he secured a total of 956 million KRW in special grants: 571 million KRW for Suncheon Girls' Middle School (hereafter Suncheon Yeo-jung) and 385 million KRW for Maesan Middle School (hereafter Maesan Jung) for restroom renovation (remodeling).
With the restroom renovations at Suncheon Yeo-jung and Maesan Jung, the students' school life and learning environment are expected to be significantly improved and more comfortable.
Ahead of the Ministry of Education's special grant support project selection in the first half of this year, lawmaker So identified the most urgent projects for our students and continuously discussed with Lee Yong-deok, Superintendent of Suncheon Office of Education, including visiting the Suncheon Office of Education.
Lawmaker So personally confirmed that the restroom conditions at Suncheon Yeo-jung and Maesan Jung were the worst and actively persuaded Jang Seok-woong, Superintendent of Jeollanam-do Office of Education, by explaining the poor conditions of the two school facilities, emphasizing the necessity of the renovation project.
Since its establishment in 2003, the main building of Suncheon Yeo-jung has experienced frequent equipment failures such as restroom plumbing due to aging.
Although repairs have been ongoing, excessive maintenance costs have made comprehensive repairs necessary.
Maesan Jung is in a similar situation, with low water pressure in the restrooms causing frequent pipe blockages and frequent replacement and repairs of parts, leading students to avoid using the school restrooms, which is reported to interfere with their learning.
Lawmaker So said, “Schools are places where young people spend the longest time after home. A comfortable and safe learning environment is the most basic condition for quality education.”
He also conveyed congratulations and encouragement to students preparing for the new semester, saying, “March is the month when spring comes. I send my congratulations and encouragement to all students about to start the new semester. I will personally check and strive for concrete improvement measures so that you can study in a more comfortable and safe environment.”
