[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 2nd, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases recorded 344. This marks three consecutive days of maintaining the 300s range since the 26th of last month (406 cases).


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on this day, there were 344 new domestic COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 90,372. Regarding the infection routes, 319 cases were locally transmitted, and 25 were imported from overseas.


By region, Seoul reported 120 cases, Gyeonggi 111 cases, and Incheon 10 cases, showing a high proportion in the metropolitan area. In non-metropolitan areas, Busan had 17 cases, Daegu 12, Jeonbuk 9, Jeonnam 7, Sejong, Chungbuk, and Jeju each 5, Gwangju, Chungnam, and Gyeongbuk each 4, Gyeongnam 3, Gangwon 2, and Daejeon 1. No new cases were reported in Ulsan.


There were 25 imported cases. Among them, 9 were identified during quarantine, and the remaining 16 were confirmed in the local community. Of these, 12 were Korean nationals and 13 were foreigners.


The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 1 from the previous day, reaching 1,606. Among hospitalized patients, the number of critically ill patients increased by 4 to 135 compared to the previous day. The number of patients who were declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 268, totaling 81,338.


On this day, the number of diagnostic tests reported for suspected cases was 16,221, and 14,775 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area. Despite the relatively low number of tests at the metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 53 confirmed cases were identified.


As of midnight on this day, 1,442 people received additional COVID-19 vaccinations. This brings the total number of people who completed the first dose to 23,086. Among them, 22,191 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 895 received the Pfizer vaccine.
