Priority Selection of Children of Small Business Owners Facing Economic Hardship Due to COVID-19... Seocho Scholarship Support of 90 Million Won for 50 Students (30 High School, 20 University)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Seocho Scholarship Foundation will accept applications for the selection of the ‘2021 Seocho Scholars’ from the 2nd to the 15th.
The Seocho Scholarship Foundation has been selecting Seocho Scholars for five consecutive years since 2017 to discover and nurture key local talents.
In particular, the Foundation’s board of directors has decided that this year’s scholar selection will prioritize children from small business owner families who have been directly impacted by the prolonged economic difficulties caused by COVID-19.
During the final selection review of scholars, the Foundation’s board will give priority consideration to supporting scholarship projects that can provide some assistance to small business owner families.
The selection targets are high school and university students (including vocational school students recognized under the ‘Act on the Recognition of Academic Credits’) from low-income and multi-child families who have resided in the area for more than one year. Selection will be based on residence period, income level, and academic performance of students who are economically disadvantaged but academically excellent.
For children of small business owners, priority consideration will be given when there is economic damage caused by COVID-19. There are no restrictions on business types, and submission of documents such as health insurance qualification certificates or business closure (or suspension) certificates will be considered. The board will make the final selection of scholars in need of support.
The scale of the 2021 Seocho Scholars selection is a total of 50 students, including 30 high school students and 20 university students. Scholarships of 1 million KRW per high school student and 3 million KRW per university student will be provided, totaling 90 million KRW.
Additionally, the Seocho Scholarship Foundation plans to promote the scholarship program in the local community and encourage meaningful donations from those interested in nurturing local talents in Seocho-gu to revitalize the scholarship program.
Applications will be accepted from March 2 to March 15, and scholarships will be awarded in early April after screening.
Applications and inquiries can be made at the Education and Sports Division on the 8th floor of Seocho-gu Office or at the Seocho Scholarship Foundation. Further details can be found in the announcement posted on the Seocho-gu Office website.
A Seocho-gu official said, “We express our gratitude to the Seocho Scholarship Foundation for providing scholarships that offer crucial support during the most economically difficult times caused by COVID-19. Seocho-gu will continue to provide generous scholarship support and attention to students who will be the driving force of Seocho’s development, together with the Foundation.”
