Selection of 45 Youth Living or Attending Schools in the Area... Applications Accepted Until the 28th... Youth Themselves Discover and Propose Policies While Experiencing Various Legislative Activities Until Year-End
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “Please represent the voices of youth!”
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is recruiting members for the Youth Council until the 28th.
Guro-gu stated on the 2nd, “We opened the Youth Council last year to expand local youths’ opportunities to participate in district administration and to develop their autonomous capabilities. Youth council members identify necessary policies themselves and propose them to the district office.”
The recruitment target is 45 youths aged 13 to 18 who either reside in Guro-gu or attend school in Guro-gu.
Youths wishing to apply should complete application documents such as a self-introduction and policy proposal and submit them by visiting the district office’s Elderly and Youth Division or by email (guro3666@naver.com).
Detailed information can be found in the announcement section on the district office website.
Youth council members will engage in legislative activities including the opening ceremony, education/workshops, regular meetings, and standing meetings from April to December. They will receive membership cards and badges, and benefits such as awards for outstanding activities and recognition of volunteer hours will be provided.
Last year’s first Youth Council formed four standing committees on education, transportation & safety, culture, and environment to discuss various youth issues. They directly discovered and proposed policies such as the ‘Career Activity Scholarship,’ ‘Youth Participatory Budgeting,’ and ‘Youth Cultural Activity Expenses’ to the district office.
A Guro-gu official said, “We hope for much interest and participation in the Youth Council, where youths can create the Guro they want themselves,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the smooth operation of the Youth Council.”
Meanwhile, Guro-gu recently launched a dedicated application for local youth called ‘Guro-gu Youth Participation Platform’ (abbreviated as Gucheongjang).
Through ‘Gucheongjang,’ youths can check various information such as youth events and festivals, scholarship systems, contests, support projects, and youth facilities. To install, search for ‘Gucheongjang’ on the Google Play Store.
