Seoul-wide District Unit Plans to Be Published Online... DB Created After 2 Years

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is expanding its district unit planning online viewing service to all 25 autonomous districts.

Starting from the 2nd, Seoul announced that district unit plans across the entire city can be checked online through the map service within the Seoul Urban Planning Portal.

The 12 newly added autonomous districts are Gangdong, Gangbuk, Gangseo, Gwangjin, Guro, Geumcheon, Nowon, Dobong, Dongdaemun, Seodaemun, Songpa, and Jungnang. As a result, district unit plans for a total of 552 zones (109㎢) across all 25 districts can now be viewed at once.

District unit planning is an urban management plan that sets regulations on building use, floor area ratio, building coverage ratio, height, etc., for key sites such as station areas and redevelopment/reconstruction zones. Since 2019, Seoul has been database-izing district unit plan information, building approximately 110,000 documents including texts and drawings.

By entering the desired address in the map within the Seoul Urban Planning Portal, users can move to the corresponding parcel and check detailed information. Related notices, reports, drawings, and guidelines can also be downloaded. Additionally, spatial information for each parcel such as building limit lines and public open spaces can be confirmed through maps containing buildings, surrounding terrain, and landmarks.

Hong Seon-gi, Director of the Urban Management Division of Seoul, said, "After over two years of database development, we have finally made the vast urban planning information of district unit plans, which apply to 30% of Seoul’s urbanized area excluding green spaces and parks, available online." He added, "The computerized district unit plan information is expected to be utilized not only in urban planning-related work but also in various fields such as real estate transactions, building permits, and related research."
