[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the Gyeongbuk region, which had been stable, has risen to double digits again after five days.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 1st, as of midnight the previous day, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk region was 3,266 (including 62 overseas cases), an increase of 13 (3 imported cases) from the previous day.
New confirmed cases by region are 5 in Uiseong-gun, 4 in Pohang-si, 3 in Gyeongsan-si (2 imported), and 1 in Yeongcheon-si (imported).
Among the new confirmed cases in Uiseong-gun, 3 were contacts of Uiseong case number 59, who was identified as a super-spreader at a supermarket in Bongyang-myeon after being confirmed positive on the 18th, and tested positive during self-quarantine. The other 2 cases have unknown infection routes.
The 4 new confirmed cases in Pohang-si are members of Hyoja Church located in Hyoja-dong. One church member was confirmed positive the previous day before these cases, prompting an epidemiological investigation of the congregation. The initially confirmed member showed suspected COVID-19 symptoms such as fever and cough starting from the 20th but attended the Hyoja Church service on the 21st.
Among the 3 new confirmed cases in Gyeongsan-si, one is a contact of Gyeongsan case number 895 confirmed on the 17th, and the other two are imported cases. In Yeongcheon-si, one person who entered from America was confirmed positive.
In Gyeongbuk, 55 people were confirmed over the past week, averaging 7.9 cases per day, and currently 2,003 people are under self-quarantine.
