[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University has been selected as a specialized graduate school for chemical substance safety management, and is expected to be established as a hub for research and development in the related field.
Chonnam National University announced on the 28th that it was finally selected as a specialized graduate school for chemical substance safety management by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Chemical Management Association on the 26th.
Accordingly, the graduate school’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Environmental Energy Engineering will operate specialized education on chemical substances, handling facilities, and safety management, as well as non-degree programs and undergraduate-linked courses.
To this end, related subjects will be offered at the Gwangju Campus and Yeosu Industrial Complex Industry-Academia Convergence Campus.
Chonnam National University will also open degree programs for employees through business agreements with workplaces such as the Yeosu Industrial Complex, and contribute to revitalizing industry-academia cooperation by engaging in basic research and technology development in industry, academia, and research institutes.
The specialized graduate school for chemical substance safety management will receive a total support of about 1.9 billion KRW over five years until 2026.
Scholarships, education and training expenses, and research activity funds will be provided to participating students such as employees entering the graduate school, and opportunities to participate in industry-academia-research seminars, international education, and activities will also be given.
In addition, participation in employment linkage programs, internships, and field training will enable students to cultivate practical skills related to chemical safety.
Professor Ma Byung-cheol, head professor of the specialized graduate school at Chonnam National University, said, “With this selection as a specialized graduate school, the regional innovation platform project promoted by Chonnam National University, as well as the Yeosu Industrial Complex Process Innovation Simulation Center construction project promoted by Jeonnam Province, will be linked, giving momentum to the training of highly skilled personnel in the fields of chemical, energy, and process simulation.”
