[Breaking] Pfizer Vaccine Possibly First Worldwide to Allow 7 Doses per Vial... "Our Technology is Excellent"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] It has been reported that the number of doses per vial of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer in the United States may increase from 6 to 7.

On the first day of Pfizer vaccine administration in Korea, the 27th, the National Medical Center is verifying a plan to expand the number of doses per vial using a special "Low Dead Space (LDS)" syringe developed by domestic companies. If the number of doses per vial increases from 6 to 7, it will be the world's first case.

At 9 a.m. that day, National Medical Center Director Jeong Ki-hyun explained the number of doses per Pfizer vial to Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who came to observe the vaccination, saying, "The syringe is good, and the nurses' skills are excellent, so better results can be expected."

He explained, "If we do it properly in the morning, we can verify it accurately. When the frozen Pfizer vaccine is thawed, there is about 0.45cc, and if 1.8cc of saline solution is added, the total volume becomes 2.2cc. If the dose per injection is 0.3cc, it yields 7 doses."

In response, Prime Minister Chung said, "That's a trade secret..." and Director Jeong remarked, "It seems like a big event is about to happen..." Prime Minister Chung also said, "I was worried that we might not get 6 doses and only 5.5 doses. But I thought, 'Our nurses are skilled, so we can trust them,' and it seems my thoughts were correct."
