'Nowon Lifelong Citizen University' Launches 57 Courses in Collaboration with 7 Universities Including Korea Military Academy in Nowon-gu... Providing High-Quality Lifelong Learning Programs through University Facility Access and Participation of Excellent Professors
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is operating the ‘Nowon Lifelong Citizen University’ in cooperation with seven local universities to promote lifelong learning among residents.
The participating universities are Kwangwoon University, Samyook University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Seoul Women’s University, Korea Military Academy, Induk University, and Korea Bible University.
This collaborative project shares each university’s excellent human resources and specialized programs with residents, with the district securing a total project budget of 3.5 billion KRW to support each university.
The Nowon Lifelong Citizen University will begin registration in March and start a total of about 57 courses from April.
Courses are designed to meet the diverse needs of all residents, including youth, office workers, seniors, and people with disabilities. Expert courses for obtaining certifications will also be offered.
The program areas by university are divided as follows: Kwangwoon University and Seoul National University of Science and Technology focus on future science and technology; Samyook University and Korea Military Academy on health and physical education; Seoul Women’s University, Induk University, and Korea Bible University on humanities, liberal arts, and capacity-building education.
Specifically, ▲ Kwangwoon University focuses on nurturing future talents to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution
Kwangwoon University has prepared a curriculum focused on ‘youth and young adults’ to intensively educate future technologies based on ICT. They will operate eight courses ranging from AI and Augmented Reality (AR) theory lectures to content and smart app production and coding practice. This aims to provide practical help for career planning for youth and employment and entrepreneurship for young adults.

Samyook University offers health and physical education courses using tennis and squash. They provide step-by-step courses from basics to advanced levels, age-specific courses from children to seniors, and evening and weekend classes for office workers.
In particular, a ‘Tennis Instructor Course’ is also available for students aspiring to become professionals.

Seoul National University of Science and Technology focuses on brain health promotion and early prediction and prevention of dementia education courses.
Additionally, programs such as ‘Upcycling Art,’ ‘Enhancing Mental Immunity through Reading,’ and ‘Humanities through Alcohol Tasting’ are offered to help cultivate a cultured and healthy life.

Seoul Women’s University offers two courses under the ‘Free Life School’ aimed at improving quality of life based on humanities literacy. Each course includes programs such as liberal arts, horticulture, and crafts. These courses, open to individuals, couples, and families of all ages, are the only ones among the seven universities’ programs conducted 100% as residential courses.

Korea Military Academy operates various courses in health and physical education including horseback riding and traditional archery, as well as humanities and liberal arts. Especially, it provides cadet academy experience and admission information for youth, expected to attract interest from students and parents.

Induk University focuses on courses supporting a healthy new start for the new middle-aged generation. The main subjects include life re-design and entrepreneurship education. Courses for obtaining aroma instructor certification, senior model training, and craft beer brewing are expected to be popular.
▲ Inclusive programs for people with disabilities and their families at Korea Bible University
Korea Bible University draws attention by offering physical health support education for people with disabilities and courses for parents of children with disabilities. It also operates career education courses for youth and capacity-building courses for lifelong education workers, providing tailored professional education for each target group.
Anyone residing in Nowon-gu can apply for these lifelong education programs. Tuition fees will be 10,000 KRW or free. To ensure systematic operation, a ‘Nowon Lifelong Citizen University Public-Academic Cooperation MOU’ was signed on the 9th with seven universities in Nowon-gu.
