Local Media Report... Source "Don't Know Where They Are Currently"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Hee-jong] Since the military coup in Myanmar on the 1st, Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's State Counsellor, who had been detained at her residence, has recently been moved to an undisclosed location, according to current media reports.
According to Myanmar Now on the 27th, Suu Kyi was recently relocated from her residence in the capital, Naypyidaw, to another location. A source from the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Suu Kyi, stated this and added, "We do not know where Suu Kyi is currently."
Another senior NLD official also confirmed to U.S. media that Suu Kyi's detention location has been changed from her previous residence in Naypyidaw to another place.
The military government also recently raided a horticultural training center in Naypyidaw and confiscated items, according to media citing sources. Suu Kyi had planned to establish a museum at this training center and had moved personal collections, including various awards she received from the international community over the past 30 years, to the site, the media reported.
Suu Kyi was scheduled to attend a virtual trial on the 1st of next month for two charges. She was charged with violating import-export laws for using illegally imported walkie-talkies and with violating the Natural Disaster Management Law for attending a large gathering during last year's election campaign, which breached COVID-19 prevention measures.
However, with the change in her detention location ahead of the trial and the military government's raid on places related to Suu Kyi, there are speculations that she might be charged with additional offenses.
