Need for Seoul City Support to Add Wangsimni Station as New Stop in Urban Transportation Office Report... "Budget Support for Selecting Wangsimni Station GTX-C New Stop by Seoul City Must Be Confirmed First"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Metropolitan Council member Jeong Ji-gwon (Democratic Party, Seongdong 2) strongly urged the Seoul city government to actively support the smooth progress of the GTX-C project by proposing the establishment of a new station at Wangsimni Station on the 수도권광역급행철도 (GTX-C) line during the 299th extraordinary session urban transportation office business report.
GTX is being promoted to build a metropolitan express railway network that connects major hubs in downtown Seoul within 30 minutes to alleviate traffic congestion in the metropolitan area, with three lines: A, B, and C.
On the 25th, Seoul city announced through a press release that it proposed to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to establish a new station at Wangsimni Station on the GTX-C line and plans to discuss the station installation in detail with related organizations.
Wangsimni Station, located in Seongdong-gu, is a station where four lines pass: Subway Line 2, Line 5, Gyeongwon Line, and Bundang Line. It has an average daily ridership of about 22,000 and an annual ridership of approximately 840,000, making it a station with a large floating population.
If Wangsimni Station is established between Samsung Station and Cheongnyangni Station on the GTX-C line, the transfer time from Uijeongbu to Line 2 will be reduced from 26 minutes to 19 minutes, greatly contributing to improving public transportation convenience for metropolitan citizens.
Council member Jeong Ji-gwon stated, “The new GTX-C Wangsimni Station in downtown Seoul is a place that must be established to improve the convenience of local residents,” and requested, “Seoul city should actively accept the opinions of related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and actively support the smooth progress of the GTX project.”
