Seoul Social Service Institute Opens 7th Public Childcare Center Dundeun Daycare in Songpa

7th Seoul Social Service Agency Operated Public Childcare Center Opening

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Social Service Institute announced on the 28th that it will open the ‘Songpa Dundeun Daycare Center’ on the 1st of next month. Dundeun Daycare Center is a public daycare center operated by the Seoul Social Service Institute, responsible for child-centered and play-centered childcare services to strengthen the public nature of childcare.

The Seoul Social Service Institute has been entrusted with and operating six daycare centers since March 2020, starting with Nowon Dundeun Daycare Center, followed by Seodaemun, Eunpyeong, Jungnang, Yeongdeungpo, and Gangdong. With the additional opening of Songpa Dundeun Daycare Center, the institute will operate a total of seven daycare centers, further solidifying the foundation of public childcare.

Dundeun Daycare Centers provide customized vulnerable childcare considering the regional conditions and childcare demand of each autonomous district, and strive to provide high-quality childcare services by enhancing professionalism through securing employment stability for childcare staff and expanding job training. Songpa Dundeun Daycare Center, entrusted by Songpa District and operated for five years, is a single-story building (total area 407.0㎡) consisting of childcare rooms, a library space, a kitchen, a teaching materials room, and a teachers’ room, and plans to care for a total of 77 children.

However, due to the daycare closure order caused by COVID-19, Songpa Dundeun Daycare Center will operate as emergency care for working parents and single-parent families without a separate opening ceremony.
