[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University is taking the lead in innovating graduate education.
Chonnam National University Graduate School recently announced on the 26th that it held the ‘4th Phase BK21 Project Graduate School Innovation and Education Research Group (Team) Performance Sharing Forum.’
The forum was held to share the first-year graduate school innovation achievements of the 4th Phase BK21 Project being promoted at Chonnam National University and the best practices of the education research groups (teams).
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event was conducted via online YouTube live streaming using state-of-the-art equipment at the Jinri Building Segyero Lecture Room of Chonnam National University, with about 300 participants including BK21 project professors and graduate students from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions joining the live stream.
In Part 1, the following presentations were made: ▲Graduate School System in Korea: Reality and Ideal (Professor Yeom Min-ho, Department of Education, Chonnam National University) ▲Practical Strategies for Graduate School Innovation (Professor Baek Jang-seon, Department of Statistics, Chonnam National University) ▲Graduate School Innovation Performance Presentation (Team Leader Yang Seung-rok, Talent Development Office, Chonnam National University).
In Part 2, time was spent sharing excellent cases from ▲Flourishing Education Specialist Training Project Group (Director Ryu Ji-heon) ▲International Migration and Diaspora Innovative Talent Education Research Group (Director Kim Kyung-hak) ▲4th Phase BK21 Education Research Group and G-ACE (Preliminary Education Research Group) of the Convergence Food Bioengineering Department.
Since 2019, Chonnam National University Graduate School has started preparatory work for the 4th Phase BK21 Project by establishing ‘Student Success’ as the core value of graduate education and making proactive preparations for graduate school innovation.
To strengthen graduate school administrative services, the Graduate School Innovation Headquarters was newly established, and the administrative organization was expanded from 6 to 19 personnel by adding vice deans and dedicated staff for academics, research, internationalization, and employment.
From admission to graduation, 30 representative academic management achievements were improved through system reforms, and a lineup of scholarship and support programs by degree course was completed through the Graduate School President’s Honor Scholarship and support for enhancing research planning capabilities.
To enhance graduate students’ rights, the Graduate Student Rights Charter was revised, and the advising professor system was significantly improved.
Song Jin-gyu, Dean of the Graduate School at Chonnam National University (also Head of the Graduate School Innovation Headquarters), said, “It was a meaningful occasion to share the first-year achievements of the 4th Phase BK21 Project by the Graduate School Innovation Headquarters and education research groups (teams). We will continue to do our best to innovate graduate education.”
