[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the afternoon of the 26th that it held the ‘4th Administrative Council for the 4th Gwangju Station Economic-Based Urban Regeneration New Deal Project’ at the city hall’s medium conference room, presided over by Deputy Mayor Kim Jong-hyo.

The Administrative Council was established in September of the same year following the selection of the ‘Gwangju Station Economic-Based Urban Regeneration New Deal Project’ in August 2018, in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Urban Regeneration New Deal Project Guidelines.’ It is composed of departments and organizations related to the project, including KORAIL, the Korea Rail Network Authority, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, and Gwangju Urban Corporation. The council is responsible for coordinating mutual opinions among related organizations and sharing, consulting, and adjusting various pending issues.

At the 3rd Administrative Council held in February last year, major matters such as requesting cooperation for the sale of land owned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport related to the establishment of the startup incubation facility Station G were discussed with related organizations, and the project has been progressing smoothly since the council.

At this Administrative Council, reports on the progress and future plans of the Gwangju Station Economic-Based Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, the Gwangju Station Complex Development Project, and 15 collaborative projects, as well as discussions on pending issues, were held.

Regarding the core project of the Gwangju Station Economic-Based Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, the Station G construction project, a request was made to the Comprehensive Construction Headquarters Architecture Division to begin construction within the first half of the year. Additionally, Gwangju Technopark was urged to closely coordinate with related organizations to ensure a well-structured space composition and operation plan.

For the Gwangju Station Complex Development Project, which is being promoted on the site of the Gwangju Station vehicle depot, active cooperation and requests were made to KORAIL and the Korea Rail Network Authority to promptly finalize the railway operation and railway facility relocation plans so that phased relocations can be carried out for the swift progress of the project.

Furthermore, efforts to strengthen organic collaboration among each ministry were promoted to ensure a substantial Gwangju Station regeneration project, and requests were made to continuously discover new projects in the Gwangju Station area.

The 5th Administrative Council is scheduled to be held in the second half of this year, considering the commencement of construction of Station G and the progress of the Gwangju Station Complex Development Project.

Deputy Mayor Kim Jong-hyo said, “As the Gwangju Station Urban Regeneration New Deal Project is being actively promoted, I ask for cooperation so that related city departments and various related organizations such as KORAIL can work organically together to ensure its successful implementation.”
