Gwangju Office of Education Focuses on Training 'Curriculum Design Experts' for High School Credit System

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 26th that it will systematize customized job training to cultivate 'curriculum design experts' in preparation for the high school credit system.

To operate a student growth-centered high school credit system, the role of teachers as curriculum design experts is required, equipped with the ability to organize and operate customized curricula based on student demand, and to guide and counsel students in academic planning and course completion according to their career paths and aptitudes.

The Office of Education has systematized customized job training courses to strengthen teachers' curriculum design capabilities in the following order: ▲Understanding the high school credit system and operating student-selective curricula (15 hours, remote training) ▲Basic course on curriculum completion guidance (15 hours) ▲Curriculum, career, and academic design guidance expert (CDA) course (15 hours) ▲Curriculum design leader course (10 hours).

In addition, to establish a curriculum completion guidance system for general high schools, combined in-person and non-face-to-face (real-time, interactive) training sessions were conducted from the 25th of last month to the 17th of this month.

The 1st to 3rd sessions of the 'Basic Course on Curriculum Completion Guidance' and the 1st session of the 'Curriculum, Career, and Academic Design Guidance Expert (CDA) Course' were conducted, with 167 and 53 general high school teachers completing each course respectively.

Woo Jae-hak, Director of Secondary Education at the Office of Education, said, "We will continuously support the strengthening of teachers' curriculum design and guidance capabilities to establish the foundation for the introduction of the high school credit system and to build a student-centered support system in general high schools," adding, "We will also promote customized training by target and theme, such as understanding the high school credit system, utilizing the course registration system, and understanding credit system-type spaces."
