On-site Visit for COVID-19 Vaccination of Workers at Nursing Hospitals and Care Facilities... Urging Safe and Swift Vaccination
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the morning of the 26th, President Moon Jae-in visited the Mapo-gu Public Health Center in Seoul to observe the COVID-19 vaccination process.
Starting at 9 a.m., nationwide simultaneous administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine began for workers and inpatients/residents under 65 years old at nursing hospitals, nursing facilities, psychiatric care, and rehabilitation facilities. No specific individual was designated as the first vaccine recipient.
President Moon observed Kim Yoon-tae (Director of Nexus Children's Rehabilitation Hospital, physician, 60 years old) and Lee Jeong-seon (Occupational therapist at the Seoul Western Senior Specialized Nursing Center, 32 years old) receiving their vaccinations. The scene of Mr. Kim receiving the COVID-19 vaccine was broadcast live on KTV.
President Moon encouraged the public health center staff responsible for quarantine and vaccination and urged them to ensure a safe and swift vaccination process. The Mapo-gu Public Health Center was the first basic local government in the country to establish and operate a dedicated COVID-19 call center. It has actively responded to COVID-19 by securing and operating a hotel in its jurisdiction as a residential treatment center.
President Moon visited the Mapo-gu COVID-19 Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and received a report from Jung Eun-kyung, Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, on the vaccination implementation plan for nursing hospitals and nursing facilities. He also received a briefing on the Mapo-gu vaccination plan from Oh Sang-chul, Director of the Mapo-gu Public Health Center.
Subsequently, following the guidance of the Mapo-gu Public Health Center Director, President Moon inspected the vaccination preparation process, which proceeded in the order of registrant check-in and waiting → preliminary examination and vaccine preparation → vaccination → adverse reaction observation room → intensive observation room.
