[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 25th, Go Minjung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Joo Ho-young, the floor leader of the People Power Party, saying, "How on earth can the president's visit to Busan for the 'Southeast Mega City Construction Strategy Report' be considered election interference or grounds for impeachment?"

In a post on her Facebook on the same day, Rep. Go said, "This morning, Floor Leader Joo broke the embargo to disclose the president's schedule and said 'presidential impeachment.'"

She added, "The Korean New Deal is a national agenda of the Moon Jae-in administration, and the president's visit to Busan is the 11th on-site visit schedule," and criticized, "Floor Leader Joo and the People Power Party seem to view all efforts to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and revive economic vitality as election campaigning."

She continued, "I want to ask if the president should stop governing the country during election season," and questioned, "Do they really not know that governance must continue unwaveringly even during election season?"

Rep. Go also pointed out, "No matter how important elections are, demanding the effective abandonment of governance and repeatedly threatening impeachment is clear tyranny."

She said, "The floor leader of the People Power Party keeps bringing up impeachment at every opportunity," and warned, "Before the April 15 general election last year, then floor leader Shim Jae-cheol of the United Future Party (now People Power Party) also mentioned impeachment, and the result was a crushing defeat in the general election."

Finally, Rep. Go emphasized, "I sincerely hope they regain their reason. As the responsible main opposition party, I earnestly ask them to look after governance before the election."

Earlier, Floor Leader Joo said at the emergency countermeasure meeting that morning, regarding President Moon's visit to Busan, "Stop the illegal election interference at the regime level," and added, "Perhaps unsettled by the disaster relief fund offensive, they are engaging in election campaigning in support of the Democratic Party through Gadeokdo and the Southeast Mega City." He further stated, "Blatant election interference constitutes grounds for impeachment," and "Our party will begin reviewing whether there has been a violation of election laws."
