The 1st Geumcheon Future Science Classroom Completion Ceremony Held on the 23rd... Online Science Classes Conducted for 99 Elementary Students During Last Winter Vacation... Convergence Science Education for the 4th Industrial Era Using Experience Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) held the completion ceremony for the "1st Geumcheon Future Science Classroom" on-off mix at the Humanoid Hub in Gasan-dong on the 23rd.
The "Geumcheon Future Science Classroom" is a project by Geumcheon-gu to support elementary school students in the area to enhance their understanding and interest in science, enabling them to grow into talents for the 4th Industrial Revolution era.
The completion ceremony was conducted in a hybrid on-offline format, with only four representatives from each class attending in person, while the remaining students joined online.
During the winter vacation period, from December 22 last year to February 24, the district conducted real-time interactive online education for a total of 99 students selected through an open recruitment process, targeting elementary school students from grades 3 to 6.
The education utilized science experience kits such as making wind-up robots, robots that move to avoid light, and air purifiers, allowing students to enjoyably engage with science and technology in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Additionally, to prevent any inconvenience caused by online education, the students were divided into four classes with a homeroom teacher system for each class, enabling immediate responses to students' questions and frequent communication.
Students who participated in the classes expressed their anticipation for future lessons, saying, "I usually thought science was boring, but it became fun as I took the classes, and I want to keep attending," "I never had a chance to cut a mask, but in the air purifier making class, I learned about the structure of masks, which was fascinating and fun," and "It was good because the hands-on making practice was useful in real life."
The district plans to conduct the 2nd Geumcheon Future Science Classroom again during this year's vacation period.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope this education served as an opportunity for students to continue to have an interest in science, develop their talents, and grow through exploration," adding, "We will continue to provide multifaceted support so that young people can grow into creative talents who will lead future society through various science education projects."
