Vice Minister Park made this remark while visiting the opening ceremony of the smart parking lot near the Gyenam Overpass in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, on the morning of the same day.
Earlier, Maro Robot Tech received approval for a demonstration exemption for the 'QR code-based smart parking robot' project in October last year through the regulatory sandbox system. The parking robot used in this smart parking lot was developed by combining artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technology to park vehicles in designated spots autonomously.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "Using parking robots increases the number of parking spaces by more than 30% within the same area," and evaluated it as "a representative case of industrial digital transformation in terms of solving the shortage of urban parking spaces."
Maro Robot Tech plans to open the smart parking lot after operating it for Bucheon Wonmi Police Station staff vehicles to verify the safety of the parking robots. Subsequently, they intend to expand the demonstration zone near Bupyeong Food Town.
Vice Minister Park said, "Regulations related to tasks discovered through the upcoming Digital Transformation Coalition will also be promptly resolved in connection with the sandbox," and added, "We will promptly enact the 'Industrial Digital Transformation Promotion Act' together with the National Assembly to systematically support private sector digital transformation activities and present rights norms for industrial data to reduce uncertainties in corporate industrial data utilization."
