[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is preparing for a safe spring by inspecting various areas where safety accidents are a concern ahead of the thawing season.
On the afternoon of the 24th, Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol visited the embankment path along Jungnangcheon Stream on a warm day filled with the feeling of spring. As the temperature rises, moisture frozen underground melts, weakening the ground and potentially causing various safety accidents, prompting him to conduct an on-site inspection.
On this day, Mayor Yoo checked the operation status of outdoor sports facilities within Jungnangcheon Sports Park, including the park golf course, tennis courts, gateball grounds, and futsal fields. He also crossed the stepping stones in Jungnangcheon to inspect the river conditions during the thawing season and the status of spring flower seedling planting.
In particular, Mayor Yoo requested that the entrance and exit paths to the park golf course, which will begin operation in April, be secured generously and maintained to ensure no inconvenience in facility use for the safety of residents.
Additionally, Dongdaemun-gu will expand the operation of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps starting this year to respond quickly to various disasters and strengthen local autonomous disaster prevention capabilities.
The Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps is a local safety guardian that monitors safety risk factors in disaster-prone areas and regularly patrols safety hazards around daily life such as roads, traffic, parks, electricity, and gas.
Dongdaemun-gu will expand the existing Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps, which was mainly organized by district, to the neighborhood level to establish a detailed disaster safety response system tailored to local conditions.
As the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps is reorganized at the neighborhood level, the personnel will significantly increase from 143 to 253 members.
Considering seasonal safety vulnerabilities, the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps will engage in prevention, response, and recovery activities such as ▲child safety during school opening in spring and fall ▲thawing season safety ▲spring dry season wildfire safety, ▲water play safety ▲food hygiene safety ▲storm and flood safety in summer, and ▲winter fire safety ▲safety of multi-use facilities ▲heavy snow and cold wave safety in winter.
They also support rapid emergency recovery activities such as alert delivery, guiding resident evacuation, managing shelters for disaster victims, and emergency relief during disasters.
Dongdaemun-gu strengthens the disaster prevention capabilities and on-site response skills of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps through disaster recovery case training held 2 to 3 times a year and CPR and first aid training.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu said, “I patrolled along Jungnangcheon Stream to ensure safe outdoor activities for residents as we welcome spring. Starting this year, we will expand the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps to weave a detailed local safety network. I hope they will work hard for local safety through thorough patrols and preventive activities, and we will spare no support to strengthen the Corps’ capabilities and disaster response.”
