[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Five LG listed companies, including LG Hausys, have decided to appoint female outside directors.

LG Hausys and G2R, listed companies of LG Group, announced on the 25th that they will propose the appointment of Professor Seo Soo-kyung of the Department of Environmental Design at Sookmyung Women's University and Professor Choi Se-jung of the Media Department at Korea University as outside directors at their shareholders' meetings next month. Additionally, LG Electronics, LG Corporation, and LG Uplus plan to hold board meetings to propose the appointment of female outside directors at this year's shareholders' meetings.

Professor Seo plans to serve as a management advisor for LG Hausys, aiming to expand its high value-added total interior service business, based on her experience as the first Korean professor to serve as Secretary-General of the Asian Interior Design Association. G2R, an advertising agency with assets under 2 trillion KRW and not subject to the revised Capital Markets Act, has proactively selected Professor Choi, an expert in digital marketing and new media, as a female outside director candidate.

LG explained that the appointment of female outside directors is a measure to comply with the Capital Markets Act (effective from August next year), which prohibits boards of listed companies with assets over 2 trillion KRW from being composed of only one gender, and to expand the participation of female outside directors with expertise in ESG (environment, social, governance), fair trade, and various business fields within the board.

LG Corporation and LG Uplus plan to hold future board meetings to approve and disclose proposals recommending female outside director candidates who are experts in ESG and open innovation. Furthermore, next year, LG listed companies with assets over 2 trillion KRW, such as LG Chem, LG Household & Health Care, LG Display, and LG Innotek, plan to appoint female outside directors.

An LG official stated, "We plan to enhance the diversity and transparency of the board by expanding the participation of female experts with outstanding capabilities in various fields, thereby improving corporate value in the mid to long term."
